FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
How are you able to sell prints of these slides?
We sell prints of found vintage slide photographs under the principles of 'fair use' and 'orphan works.' These orphan works are culturally valuable images whose copyright holders are either unknown or untraceable. Our use of these works is transformative, while also serving an educational purpose. We believe in the responsible preservation of visual history and cultural heritage, adhering to copyright laws, and take care not to infringe on living photographers' rights. By giving these orphaned images a new life, we strive to share their stories and celebrate their significance.
Also considerable effort and time has been dedicated to meticulously manually cleaning, scanning, and digitally cleaning the slides. The print cost also covers the labor and materials involved in this process.
Where do you get these vintage slides from?
We source these slides from various channels. The majority are acquired through purchases made on eBay or at local estate sales. Additionally, we have been fortunate to receive generous donations from our wonderful supporters who contribute to our collection. It is through this combined effort of purchasing and receiving donations that we curate and preserve these valuable vintage slide photographs for artistic, historical, and educational purposes.
How do you scan the slides?
At present, we utilize an Epson v550 scanner to scan the slides. However, we have plans to upgrade to a more advanced and robust scanner in the near future. This upgrade will enable us to enhance the scanning process, ensuring that we maintain the utmost quality and accuracy while preserving these valuable vintage images. By continually improving our scanning technology, we aim to provide even better artistic and historical value to our collection.
Do you accept slide donations?
Absolutely, yes! We gladly accept slide donations, with a primary focus on world travel content captured between 1945 and 1970. We are particularly interested in photos featuring captivating street scenes, iconic landmarks, and intriguing landscapes. However, we kindly request that you refrain from submitting images of family events such as birthdays and weddings, as they fall outside our scope of interest.
Please note that we are unable to provide digital copies of the donated slides. Rest assured, though, that your contributions will be treasured as a valuable part of our effort to preserve visual history and cultural heritage. Your donations will help us celebrate the wonders of the past and share compelling stories from around the world. Thank you for considering contributing to our collection!
